DESCRIPTION:
Hamilton, Model 21 Break Circuit marine chronometer, fusee-drive with spring detent escapement, 56-hour power reserve winding indicator, original brass tub within original non-gimballed fitted mahogany box with Bakelite knobs on the side for input power and signal out, inner box with wiring and two fuses (one being a spare), gilt Hamilton signature plate on top lid, silvered dial of approximately 4 inch diameter, marked "N, 6791 and 1941" within seconds-register, KWKS, fully capped spring detent escapement with break circuit attachment, 14J, mono-metallic free-sprung balance with helical Elinvar hairspring, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#2E6791. This particular chronometer was used by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute for depth charge research and wave frequency research. This particular chronometer also comes with the original timing card dated April-May as well as various other correspondence and provenance. From the estate of Daniel L. Haff.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered small spots and mild fine scratches; excellent dial with light spotting; nearly mint hands; brass tub with loss of gilt finish almost entirely below the bezel, good beveled glass crystal.
